He was coughing and had a runny nose and a fever. When he went to sleep it was in my arms and every time I tried to put him down he would of course wake up and cry.

Yes, these are the joys of motherhood. I was up with him at least 3 times in the night before he climbed into our bed and demanded “MOVE, Dad!”, so he could get close enough to me to hold my hair at 6:45.

So, when Ryan came home too tired to do anything fun, and I saw an opportunity to escape with the 3 older (non sick) kids (yes, Jenna’s got this cold, too), for an FHE activity, I jumped at it. We gathered up all the library books (going to the library was on my list to do yesterday, but with sick child I didn’t get out of the house), and headed to the library. We had a fun outing, with everyone getting their allowed 4 books (I know it doesn’t sound like much, but with 6 people to get books for…). I even splurged and got a movie to watch later (Raising Arizona).

When we were done at the library, we made a quick stop at Kohl’s to see if I could convince Megan to ditch the scroungy looking boy’s hand-me-down levi jacket that she wears all the time for a cute coat I had seen there the other day. It’s pink cordoury with a fake fur collar. I thought it would be right up her ally. She tried it on with such a sad look on her face, I said never mind and took it off her. No clearance price (60% off) is worth it if she won’t wear it. But Natalie came to the rescue. “I like it, Mom!” Even though she doesn’t really need a new coat, I got that one for her, and Megan found a leopard print furry coat she loves. I told her I would only buy that coat for her (it’s not really in her size, it’s a 14, and a bit big on her, but she likes that baggy look) if we threw away the denim coat. She agreed!

So, we came home happy with our purchases.

(here comes the brain dead part…)

When I was getting ready for bed, I got a phone call from Melinda, who got a phone call from her library, who got a phone call from my library to say that some idiot had returned a book to the wrong library. OOPS! You see, Melinda gets the book club books from her library (since it’s a county system and they can get 10 of the same title). I had just tossed that book in with all my other library books and returned it. Duh. Now I get to go back to my dinky smalltown library and confess that I’m the idiot who returned a book to the wrong library, and could I please have it back.

And I’m looking forward to another day being shackled to–I mean caring for–my sick children, with my few precious brain cells quickly slipping further and further away.

I spent the day holding and catering to the every whim of a two year old.
