{"id":637,"date":"2007-08-16T09:10:44","date_gmt":"2007-08-16T15:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paige.ericksonfamily.com\/2007\/08\/16\/dont-tell-and-they-wont-ask\/"},"modified":"2007-08-16T09:10:44","modified_gmt":"2007-08-16T15:10:44","slug":"dont-tell-and-they-wont-ask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paige.ericksonfamily.com\/?p=637","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t tell and they won&#8217;t ask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of you may know that I my policy is not to tell my kids anything until the last minute.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 If we are going to do something fun, they don&#8217;t find out about it until right before we go.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Vacations?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 I try not to tell them until a day or two before we leave.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 If someone&#8217;s coming to visit, I write it stealthily on the calendar and try not to let them know what it means.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Why?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Two reason, mainly.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 1-Plans change, and 2-Because I can&#8217;t stand the pestering.<\/p>\n<p>Mom, when are we going to do that fun thing?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 How many more days?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Are we doing that fun thing today?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Right now?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go RIGHT NOW!!\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 When we go do that fun thing, I&#8217;m going to take my whatever with me.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Is it time for that fun thing?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Is it?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Is it?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Hmmmmmm?\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 And this goes on and on and on.<\/p>\n<p>Some parents might think I&#8217;m depriving my kids of the anticipation, of the counting down on the calendar, the fun that is waiting.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Whatever.<\/p>\n<p>John got an invitation to a birthday party this week.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Being only 3 (well, almost 4, actually), he doesn&#8217;t get to go to many parties, but all his little friends are turning 4, so there will be a few parties in the near future.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t really understand the concept of getting an invitation a few days <em>before<\/em> the party so that the moms can plan and get a present.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 So every day about 53 times a day he talks about Carl&#8217;s birthday, and finds things around the house that he can give Carl for a birthday present.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Then he asks me where Carl&#8217;s cake will be, and talks about the spiderman invitation.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s quite cute, even though he&#8217;s annoying the heck out of me.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 I told him that we had a nice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Encyclopedia-Prehistorica-Sharks-Other-Monsters\/dp\/076362229X\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2\/002-4841115-6076059?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books&#038;qid=1187276298&#038;sr=8-2\">shark book<\/a> to give Carl, and that we would wrap it soon.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 So, right after breakfast today, he asked me where was the shark book, and could we wrap it, and he was going to give Carl a big car with the shark book.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 So, being the average mother that I am, I got out the shark book and showed it to him.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 <img src=\"http:\/\/ec1.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51H1GMN0FPL._AA240_.jpg\" \/>I got this cool pop-up shark book for a great deal a little bit ago, and even though I think it&#8217;s a little bit advanced for a 4 year old, I think he&#8217;ll enjoy it.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 Lucky for me, it&#8217;s wrapped in plastic so John can&#8217;t open it and look at it wrinkling all the pages before we give it to his friend.<\/p>\n<p>The party is tomorrow.\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 I think he&#8217;ll only ask me about 84 times about it today, so I can handle that.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, tomorrow is also Back to School night (the kids are SO excited to meet their new teachers, can you believe it?)
