The Trials of a Busy Mom

What a nice surprise

The other day, a blog I was reading pointed me in the direction of RYKA, since they were having a give-away. I don’t even remember whose blog it was, so I’m sorry about that. But at their site, they are giving away 50 pairs of shoes every single day! This contest goes until October 25. So, I entered.

And today, the UPS guy brought me a nice little package. Wondering what ELSE Ryan had ordered, I picked it up, but it had MY name on it. Wondering what I had ordered, I read the return address label, and it said RYKA. Hmmmm. Didn’t I enter something from Ryka? I opened the box, and there are these shoes.

This shoe, in case you want to know more about it. It’s a running shoe, I guess, but I’m sure it will do with the speed I go (which is not fast). Anyway, get yourselves over to that site and enter to win some new shoes! Because we all know that new shoes make us happy!

Pay it Forward Book Exchange

Overwhelmed with Joy is sponsoring another pay it forward book exchange, and I, too, have a book to give away. I just finished reading the book Crime and Clutter. I won this from Julie at Joyful Days when she had a book drawing, and I enjoyed it. It’s a fun, clean book, with fun recipes. Maybe I should copy some of the recipes before I give it away, shouldn’t I? Good idea. Here’s the blurb about it..

A storage unit, a 1963 Volkswagen minibus, and tattered letters…reveal shattering secrets from the ’60s.

It’s been a year since Mary Alice lost her father — the father she never really knew. Now she’s stuck cleaning out his rubbish from a storage unit. Just when she’d rather it all go away from her well-ordered life, her long-held secret is discovered by the feisty Marina, one of the six members of the Friday Afternoon Club.

When these friends make it their mission to help Mary Alice tackle her stash, they arrive at the storage unit, prepared to clean. But what they discover takes them on a riotous ride through the crime and clutter of the sixties, the angst and betrayal of those caught in The Revolution, and the forgiveness that can only come through acceptance of a different kind of Cause.

Includes fun, easy, and tantalizing recipes!

To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment. I will have the kids draw a name for a winner next Friday, th 14th. It’s just that easy!

(PS, there are more giveaways here and here)

Summer reading?

Overwhelmed with Joy has come up with a fun plan to get people reading new books. She’s got a “Pay it forward Book Exchange”. Basically, you go there, sign up to win the book, and if you win, you promise to give it away when you are done with it, or give away a book that you have read and are finished with. It’s a great way to receive and/or get rid of books. There are quite a few people who have signed up to give away books themselves. So, in the spirit of giving, I’ve dug around in my bookshelf for a book that I enjoyed, but probably won’t read again. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

So if you would like to win this book, (and please understand that this is not a new pristine book.  It’s been read and enjoyed more than once, ok?) just leave a comment on this post. I’ll draw a name on Friday the 17th, and send it off for your reading pleasure. And for more chances to win, visit Overwhelmed with Joy and sign up for any of the contests currently running.

And the winners are….

Thanks to all of you for playing along with the little contest. My kids had fun drawing out the winners. They wondered what the contest was and could they win. No, kids–bloggers only! In fact they would have picked them all out of the bowl, if it were up to them. The winners they picked are:

Shannon at Gabi’s world (pink beanie baby)
Loni at My little blogging home (Book)
Jen at Prayer Warriors (purple beanie baby)
Jen at Joyful Notes (Millie CD)

I will be visiting those blogs to let you know you’ve won, and if you could please email me your mailing address, I’ll get those off in the mail. The only requirement is that you become faithful readers of my blog from this moment on! (Just joking about that last part)

A few things

Just a few things for you today.

First, I had no idea we would get so many comments to enter the little contest.  If you came by just to sign up, I hope you’ll stop by again and see what we’re up to.  I will have to cut off comments at 8 am Friday morning, and then we’ll randomly draw for winners.

Second, I can’t wait until John is 4.  I’m hoping this 3 year old attitude problem will go away when he’s 4.  Today we had a screaming kicking fit that ended in him screaming “Go Away!” over and over and over again from his bed while I sat and calmly started reading the 7th Harry Potter book that was sitting on the floor until he gave up the fight to be grumpy and fell asleep for a MUCH needed nap.  And I’m not even sure what the whole fit was about.

Thirdly, I got my hair cut yesterday, and if I do say so myself, it looks so cute!  But then my beloved hairstylist, who has cut my hair for about 12 years now (off and on) told me that she’s getting out of the hair styling business.  Her husband is no longer a struggling teacher or a starving student, he’s a lawyer, and she doesn’t need to have a job anymore.  She’d rather spend more time with her kids.  I’m going to try to convince her that I only come 4 times a year, and if needed I’ll cut it back to twice a year if she’ll just please continue to do my highlights.  But if that doesn’t work, I’ll have to go out and find someone I trust to cut my hair.  Humph.

And lastly, Robin took her kids and two of my kids camping last night, and they had such fun.  They got to sleep in her newest Vanagan, and how much fun is that?  Cool!  Maybe the little kids can sleep out there tonight.

Summer’s screaming by, and there’s less than a month until the kids go back to school.  I hope I can think of enough fun things to do to fill that time, and that we all enjoy the last month of summer together.  (There’s also less than 5 months until Christmas, too!)

Giveaway? Hooray!

Note: This Contest is now closed. You can go here to find out if you’ve won.
Shannon had the bright idea to host a bloggy giveaway bash, and you know I can’t resist a contest, so I’m in.

I have several “prizes” for you, and all you have to do to enter is leave a comment. I’ll draw the winners on Friday, July 27th. How simple is that? And since these prizes are very random and different, let me know in the comments which prize you would like to be considered for. OK? So, on with the show….

1 and 2 – Two beanie babies. They have their tags and are in good shape. They haven’t even been played with, as far as I know. I found them in my craft cupboard in my office and decided they needed to go to a new home. A home where they will be loved. They are “Valentina”

and “Princess” .

3- A CD! I’m pretty sure I must have won this in a radio contest or something. I’m not really sure. And although I’m sure I would love the music if I had seen the show, I haven’t yet seen the show and therefore don’t have much interest in the music. Are you a fan? Would you like to win this copy for your very own?

4 –The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. My book has a different picture on the front, and it’s in paperback, but it’s the same book. Like the movie, only in book form. This is a brand new book. It’s spine is still tight and no pages have been dog-eared. It even smells new.

So, there you have it, folks. If you are new here and just came over for the contest….welcome, and I hope you’ll visit again! Just leave a comment to enter, and for more contests, visit Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer. She’s got links to LOTS more!

Just for fun, try this

I’ve got an idea! When it’s over 100 degrees and your poor kids can’t go outside to play, why don’t you have all the carpets cleaned, so that all the kids (and you) are confined to all the non carpeted areas of the house. And let’s clutter up those non carpeted areas with coffee tables and chairs and plants and everything that can be moved out of the carpeted areas so that you can’t even walk on the wood floor. And then lets see if Mommy’s head really does explode!

=X=X=X=X=X=X=X

And for contest news, thanks to all who played along with Superpaige’s first contest.  I’ll have to do that again real soon!  And the winners are…..drumroll…….

Tess wins the Rocky on DVD, Lisa wins the scrapbook puzzle pieces, and Janice wins the spatulas.  Congratulations!  If the winners are not able to fulfill their responsibilities as contest winners, a substitute will be chosen in their stead.  Thank you.

It’s a contest!

By now, anyone who’s read this blog for more than a day or two should know that I love contests. No, Really? REALLY. When a friend and I were at a re-grand opening of our local Roberts, store, they had a little “musical chairs” type game. Every 15 minutes or so, they’d tell everyone to stand by a number in the store, then they would call out 3 or 4 numbers, and if you were standing by that number, you would win a prize! The girl who was doing the announcing on the PA was having fun, I’m sure. Because really, next to winning things, giving things away is almost as fun. “I should do that job.” I told my friend. “You mean the announcer?” she asked, “then you couldn’t win anything.” Which is true. I would rather be winning.

This got me to thinking. There are a lot of blog contests out there, with several give-aways that I have seen (and many that I have entered). I’ve actually won a blog contest drawing, and it was very cool to receive a present in the mail from someone that I don’t even know.

So now it’s my turn to give something away. To you, the readers.

What are the prizes? you ask.

1-Rocky on DVD. New in the package. Even though Ryan has NEVER seen Rocky (can you believe there’s a guy alive who has never seen Rocky? Or Rocky II or III or any of them!?), we’ll probably never watch this movie. But maybe you will.

2-A cute pink puzzle letter set from Li’l Trinkets and Treasures. It was in a little scrapbook kit thing, and since I really don’t scrapbook, I can’t think of a great use for this, but maybe you will.

3-My favorite Ikea spatula set.

Yes, it’s a random grouping of things, I know. And no, they aren’t super great or expensive prizes. But this is my first blog give-away, so maybe I’ll get better at this in time, who knows. Or maybe nobody will even enter and it will be a flop. We’ll see.

So, just leave a comment and let me know you’d like to be entered into the drawing. If you advertise for me on your own blog and link back to this post (increase readership, you know!), you’ll be entered twice. On Thursday, we’ll have our high energy drawing, and I’ll contact you if you win! It couldn’t be easier. You don’t even have to be caller 10.
