And for your knitting pleasure

And for those of you who knit, here’s another great entry from the “you knit what?” blog. It makes me want to sing…

It was red and yellow and green and brown
And scarlet and black and ochre and peach
And ruby and olive and violet and fawn
And lilac and gold and chocolate and mauve
And cream and crimson and silver and rose
And azure and lemon and russet and grey
And purple and white and pink and orange

Sleepless?

Last night, as I dragged myself into bed after a very long day of cooking for, cleaning up after, and putting up with the a whole lot of noise from the 12 people living in my house this week, I turned on the tv and started flipping through channels. Hey, there’s Meg Ryan and Rosie O’Donnel talking about “You don’t want to be in love, you want to be in love in a movie.” Only one of my favorite movies! Hooray! I started watching just in time to see Tom Hanks and his lovely wife Rita and Victor Garbe discussing the finer points of “An affair to Remember.” That’s about my favorite part of the movie
“And she was there on the couch, with her legs all shriveled, and then he sees the painting, and he KNOWS.”
And then comes this converstation:

Sam Baldwin: Well I’m not looking for a mail-order bride! I just want somebody I can have a decent conversation with over dinner. Without it falling down into weepy tears over some movie!
Greg: She’s, as you just saw, very emotional.
Sam Baldwin: Although I cried at the end of “the Dirty Dozen.”
Greg: Who didn’t?
Sam Baldwin: Jim Brown was throwing these hand grenades down these airshafts. And Richard Jaeckel and Lee Marvin
[Begins to cry]
Sam Baldwin: were sitting on top of this armored personnel carrier, dressed up like Nazis…
Greg: [Crying too] Stop, stop!
Sam Baldwin: And Trini Lopez…
Greg: Yes, Trini Lopez!
Sam Baldwin: He busted his neck while they were parachuting down behind the Nazi lines…
Greg: Stop.
Sam Baldwin: And Richard Jaeckel – at the beginning he had on this shiny helmet…
Greg: [Crying harder] Please no more. Oh God! I loved that movie.

(Isn’t google great? I found that in about 30 seconds!)

Anyway, then I channel surfed during the commercial, and lo and behold, I find another one of my favorite movies with the word sleep in the title starring Sandra Bullock–do you know what it is? Yes! While you were sleeping! So it warmed my heart that ‘Walter’ from Sleepless in Seattle, even though he didn’t win Meg Ryan’s heart, managed to get the girl in While you were sleeping (and then later goes on to save the world from aliens with Will Smith–Bill’s a busy guy!)

So, it was a nice way to end the day, and go to sleep.

Yo-GAAAH!

So, I like yoga, I really do. I find that it helps me relax, release pent up frustrations, stretch, get some exercise, and all those good things. I used to go twice a week on a regular basis (stop laughing–you). Well, for various reasons, most of them related to my general laziness, I haven’t gone to yoga for about a year now.

Until this week.

My sister-in-law, LK, who is visiting, had come with me before when I was going to yoga on a regular basis. She asked if that class was still going on. I didn’t really know, having not gone myself for such a long time, but I had an inkling that it was at 8:00 now, so we just went. Lo and behold, there was a yoga class. We rolled out our mats and joined right in. It wasn’t a huge power yoga session (Oh, thank Heavens) and we managed to somehow make it through without passing out or dissolving into a pile of gelatinous goo.

But the next day…. Ow, ow, ow, and ow. Every time I moved by body, it hurt. Some hurts were worse than others, like my arms were pretty ouchy, but it only hurt a little bit when I laughed. I went to bells rehearsal last night and didn’t think I would have the strength to hold my bells up for two hours, but I somehow managed (resting my hands on the table when I wasn’t playing).

This morning, we decided to repeat the torture. The first down dog of the day was pretty stiff, and the sun salutation was pretty shaky, but we got through it. Thankfully, she had to cut the class short in time so she could go to the airport and pick up her nephew, so it was only about 1/2 hour of good solid yoga. But I feel much better.

Let’s hope that I can keep it up when LK is gone and nobody is prompting me to go.

So, what’s your exercise routine this summer?

Family Matters

Wow. My Brother Scott’s family is here visiting for a week or so (Scott’s not–he had to go back home and work), but there are 2 boys about Cole’s age, a little girl around Jenna’s age, and a little boy younger than John. The kids are in cousin heaven! So far they are just playing playing playing. There’s a lot of noise, but no fighting (yet). Tonight my two sisters and their families, and my aunt and uncle came over for a barbeque. Lots of fun! I’m so thankful for my family–all of them.

Just a few more pictures, then I’ll stop blabbering on about my NY trip

There’s no place like home

So happy to be home, finally.

The kids seem bigger and more grown up, can they have changed in a week? I’ve never been away from my children for that long, and I was really missing them. It was really wonderful to see their faces light up and run to us when we came in the door. Maybe they do love us after all!

Nothing to do but BLOG

Oh, the excitement of traveling.
This morning, we woke up at 4:30 AM. (That would be 2:30 Utah time, by the way)
Caught a taxi at 5:00 AM.
Got to the airport (JFK) around 5:30.
Stood in line to check in until 5:50 or so.
That was when we found out from the lovely US Airlines lady that we were NOT listed on our 6:50 flight. Our names were in the computer, but there was no flight information attached to those names.
So, we stood there at the ticket counter (actually sitting on the floor some of the time) while Charmaine told us that every flight today was OVERBOOKED-it being a holiday weekend and all- and she couldn’t get us on any flight out. This is even after I called yesterday to confirm our flight and find out what time it left.
At around 7:30
***hold on a minute, are those nuns? I think I see some nuns in white with a blue stripe over there. The things you see in airports, huh?**
Anyway, at around 7:30, after standing there for about two hours, Charmaine finally tells us she’s got a flight for us on Delta out of Newark (that’s in New Jersey) leaving at 5:30 PM. Wow!
So, Charmaine called us a cab and gave us voucher for the drive from JFK to Newark. After our wild ride (cab drivers here are not known for their smooth driving) we got here to the lovely Newark airport, hoping to be able to be put on stand-by for an earlier flight. The lady at the check-in desk here practically laughed at us when I suggested the stand-by thing. She also told us we couldn’t check in until 6 hours before our flight.
So, here we sit.
Waiting.
Blogging.
I read my e-mail for the first time in a week, and that took about 20 minutes.
I do have a book, and we have the internet, thanks to Mr. Technology, so we should be able to pass the time without killing ourselves.
We just helped a cute Austrailian girl find the phone number for Malasian air so she can check on her flight out of Los Angeles (she’s been traveling for 6 weeks now–talk about being ready to go home!)
The good news is–we aren’t having to pass the time for 8 hours with 5 children.

In other news, we did get tickets to see Wicked last night and it was FABULOUS!! Amazing! Ryan really enjoyed it, too. He didn’t laugh out loud quite as much as he did in Spamalot, but he said he thought it was a better show. I loved it. I laughed, I cried, I sang along, and I’m buying the soundtrack as soon as I get home. I HIGHLY recommend it.

So, to recap our trip, we:
Saw all the Church sites in Palmyra–the Smith frame home, Smith log home, Hill Camorah, Moroni monument, Peter Whitmer farm and visitor’s center, the sacred grove, and the Grandin printing building.
We also went up to Niagra falls and did all the tourist things up there.
We went to the Raleigh Ringers concert, and it was AWESOME!
We went to 3 broadway shows and the David Letterman show.
We went to Central Park, the World Trade Center, and the Empire State Building.
We ate great pizza, a calzone as big as our head, and wonderful cheesecake.
And we’ve waited in three airports.

And we’re ready to come home.
May the stars align so that we can.
