As a family, we’re trying a new little “educational experience”. We’re learning about different countries this week. Our first stop was Italy. We picked Italy so that we could make our own pizzas.
Because it’s all about the food, right?
After dinner, we each told one or two interesting things about Italy, and showed where it was on the map.
So, today we’re talking about Spain. Hmmm. What kind of Spanish food can I make? Spanish Rice? Is that even Spanish? I guess I’ll be searching for some easy Spanish Recipe. So, even though it may not be the MOST educational experience, it’s kind of fun.
What are you doing to keep your kids’ brains alive this summer?
We must be surfin the same brain wave because we are doing the same thing only we are learning 1 country a week and studying it at the library too (making the kids do the research and learning how to find the stuff in the library). Then we are making postcards from that country and mailing them to grandma as if we were really in that country. Pirate O’s has some cool food from different countries. Fun stuff! Maybe we will see you in one of these countries.
Try paella. We had it in Spain, and it was yum! And if you need interesting facts, look up the Alhambra. It’s full of cool history and war and bloodshed and romance!
Paella is good. Easier, though, is a Spanish Tortilla — kind of like a frittata with eggs and potatoes. I’ve used this recipe recently: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/spanish-tortilla-with-bell-pepper?autonomy_kw=spanish%20tortilla&rsc=header_1
Recipe note: cut the potatoes about 1/4″ thick.
You guys are way too fancy for me. Paella? That’s high tech! I’m impressed.
We’re eating soup and cereal and throwing water balloons at each other. Oh, we’re reading good books, too…so I guess that counts 🙂
Ok, Paige, I am dying to know how you get my little colon and end paragraph symbol to actually turn into a smiley face. Will you please teach me so I can have that cool function as well? Pretty, pretty please???
I love this idea!! When I’m no longer dieting, I want to definitely try this with my family.
Paella was too hard. We opted for the recipe melinda gave us, and some flan. Yum.
Uhhh…I just take my kids to the pool and call it “Pretend We’re In The Caribbean” day. There’s no waves though, so that’s kind of a bummer.
