The Trials of a Busy Mom

Eat from the pantry Challenge

Money Saving Mom is working to encourage you to shop less. The idea is that we all have so much food in our pantries already that we regularly forget about. Instead, we end up shopping and spending more when we don’t really need to. This month, the goal is to try and use what you have on hand, which will force you to be a little bit more creative than usual and will help you save money in the process.

I’ve decided to join in this challenge. My goals are:

* To reduce our grocery spending to $100 in January

* To “clean out” our freezer and pantry

* To learn to “make do” with what we have!

I think that we have enough food storage that I should be able to “get by” with just buying a few fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, and maybe bread.

I’ll try to post once a week about what we’ve eaten, if we’ve had any failures or successes, and what we really need to add to our food storage for next time.

If you’d like to join this challenge, it’s not too late.

Here’s to a healthy and frugal 2010

I think I will join you in this challenge. I try to do that with my freezer about every six months. Now, the pantry.

It’s day one and already the kids are freaking out because we don’t have any ham for sandwiches. In my family, if you don’t have HAM, you might as well just lay on the floor and cry. I guess on Monday, I’ll be heading to the store for milk, eggs and HAM.

I was just thinking that my pantry was looking really low–I haven’t been keeping up with my food storage since I had Eve, and the new year was the perfect time to stock up.
    But I can’t resist myself a challenge . . .
    Hm. . . .

I feel like the only things in my pantry are different kids of olive oil, baking stuff and cans of weird veggies. The problem is it’s crammed FULL! My house guests from Holland tried to organize it while they were staying here, LOL. I will try to look in the pantry first before automatically heading for the grocery store.

I kinda already did that for several weeks in November, since I didn’t go to the grocery store for three weeks straight! Now I’m trying to rebuild my stockpile – and it’s going much slower that I’d like.

Let us know how it goes!
