The Trials of a Busy Mom

Works for me Wednesday–What to do with broken glass

Today I have a tip that I just learned about in a book.  Not a household tips or cleaning book or anything, but a novel (because that’s all I read).  If you break a glass and there are glass shards all over the floor, the broom and the dustpan may not get all the little pieces up.  Use a piece of bread to “mop” up the shards.  The little nasty pieces of glass that you may not be able to see will all get stuck in the bread, and then you just throw that bread away.

Great idea! Glass breakage happens in our house regularly with little ones learning to drink from ‘big’ glasses!

And those little slivers hurt so bad if you get it in your foot!

Ooh, good tip! I once stepped on a piece of broken glass from a mirror that shattered in our dorm room… I ended up having to have surgery to get it removed, not fun!! As you can imagine I’m always extra paranoid about broken glass now, so thanks for the idea.

I just broke a thick glass lid to a large skillet the other day, and I wish I had seen this post when I was attempting to clean it up! A year or so ago, my daughter got a piece of glass stuck in her foot from something that had broken, and I never want to go through THAT again! It was awfully painful. So, since I broke that lid the other day, I’ve been a little paranoid! I’m going to try this tonight. Thanks for the great tip!

Great tip. I had always heard that a raw potato half would work too but it doesn’t do a good job on the small slivers!!

Great idea! I always hate that my feet find the little slivers that are left on the floor.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.

😕 Yeah, bread sounded like a good idea, so I tried it. All I got was bread crumbs in my glass shards. So I did what I always do, and I know works. Toilet paper… I know sounds odd, but it even picks up the little hairs from my hubbies morning shave. It works like a charm for me, and it worked again this time. Shoot it even picked up the bread crumbs!! 🙂
