The Trials of a Busy Mom

Sappy Songs

Ok, I’m up for a good sappy song every once in a while. One that comes to mind is by Colin Ray —Love,Me. Or a good rendition of “O Holy Night” really gets me, too. But what I don’t like is contrived sappiness. Like when they play the sad music in the commercial in hopes that it will choke you up and possibly make you buy something. I just don’t think that is right. So, when the song comes on about the kid who wants to buy the shoes for his mom who’s dieing but he doens’t have enough money, it just irritates me and I HAVE to change the station. I just cannot stand that song. And now that every station is playing Christmas music, I’m in danger of hearing it. I heard it today. Yuck. And to make matters worse, right after that, they played “Grandma got run over by a reindeer.” Have you no shame?! It’s Christmas season, for heaven’s sake, not an excuse to play bad songs just because they have a slight connection to Christmas!

Please excuse me now while I take a break from my ranting and raving to explain to my daughter for the umpteenth time why she cannot quit piano lessons. If anyone has any insight on this speech and could give me some help on this one, I’d really appreciate it.

Call me about the piano lesson thing. I’ll tell you what I did with Brooke a couple of years ago.

I totally agree. I heard a sweet spiritual Christmas song, about how Joseph loved Jesus, and did the best he could as a dad, but it wasn’t his child, it was God’s child. THEN, it was immediately followed by “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer!” I switched the channel.

I also have to change the channel when the sappy shoes song comes on. I don’t like it either.
