The Trials of a Busy Mom

T is for Tupperware.

The other day Hubby staged a COUP!

Okay, maybe it wasn’t a coup, but more like a REVOLUTION, or maybe a Protest.

Yes, a protest against our Tupperware drawer. Alright, so it wasn’t like a sit in or a demonstration. What he actually said was, “I am not taking my lunch ANY more if you don’t do something about that container drawer. I can NEVER find the containers and lids that match!”

Really? This drawer? Oh, he’s just being over dramatic. There are tons of lids and containers that match! On closer look, I could only find one or two lunch sized containers that had their proper lids. Where the heck do those lids all go? They are sneaking out in the middle of the night for secret parties? Well, whatever it was, I had to take care of the situation.

I had one of these Gladware sets, so I brought it up from the basement. And I thought I would put all my mismatched tupperware type stuff in that box. Ha. I had to put all my old stuff in a big garbage bag.

I only saved the new stuff that all matched and a few essential mixing bowls.

So it ended up looking like this. Well, until the dishwasher finished washing, and then there were a few more dishes to add to the mix, but I love my new streamlined drawer! No more fiddling to try to find lids!

If I were really good at purging, I would just throw that whole garbage bag right into the trash. But I’m not really good at purging, so I put that garbage bag full of containers and lids in the basement, as a trial separation. The if we can live without each other, THEN I’ll toss the whole bag in the trash.

Maybe.

Have you ever noticed all the Tupperware at garage sales? I think every kitchen in America has a Tupperware drawer. Some years back we went to the First Monday flea market in Canton, Texas. Someone had a booth with nothing but vintage Tupperware. There might be a buyer out there for your cast offs.

Doesn’t it feel great to be so organized!

Well, decluttering is NOT easy, that’s for sure. Sounds like you are taking baby steps but eventually that lidless Tupperware may make it to the curb.

We sometimes find garden or garage uses for those types of containers. So you may be glad you saved them for a while.

Oh, the dreaded plastic containers! Mine are stacked here and there in the cabinets, with lids propped in another spot, or in a drawer and I don’t think I have but two or three that actually match lid and bowl. I did buy a new set, but unlike you- I did not toss first! I think it’s time to take to let go of my mismatches!

I’m just laughing and laughing because we have the exact same problem, and I don’t think it’s just you and me! When the hubby starts complaining I clean out the cupboard, but somehow it always returns! Save the old ones in the garage. I use them to scoop birdseed, feed the dog on trips…anything that doesn’t require a bottom and a lid together! Coming over from Jenny’s “T” party. Linda

My husband likes to go through the cabinets and organize the tupperware and kitchen containers. I let him. It makes him feel better and my kitchen looks better for a while:)

Oh I totally agree! What about all those bags we just have to keep too! We do these mad hatter clean outs but just be warned…they come back! Ha ! Ha!

Huh, I have a drawer that looks exactly like your “before” drawer!

I always “lose” my tupperwares -don’t ask me how! So, I could take some of yours, lol!
    Have a great Easter weekend!

Wow Paige! That’s great. Instead of just throwing them away (once you do your withdrawal test) use them as disposable containers for packed lunches or for meals you bring to others or leftovers you send away. Mark on the container “PLEASE DO NOT RETURN”.

Love the trial separation idea. I have some major purging to do in my kitchen too.

Fantastic post for Alphabe-Thursday. I like the idea of putting things in the basement to see if you can live without them. The only problem is that half the stuff I forget about! Love your new and organized drawer.

Ha…. This is so true and even more hilarious…

Where do those darn lids go?

For a moment I was inspired to go conquer my Tupperware drawer but That inspiration is currently lacking motivation…

So until Then… Mr. Jenny is stuck rummaging for lids That fit…

Terrific post for the letter “T”!

    Thanks for linking.

    A+
