The Trials of a Busy Mom

There’s a new reality show coming out soon, and it’s called Treasure Hunters–Moms in the Grocery Store

I just got back from Albertsons, where they are having their HUGE General Mills boxtops sale. Tons of General Mills products, each with Boxtops for education, are on sale. It’s the old gimmick–Buy 10 for $15, and then save $5 when you buy 10. So, you have to make sure you get only the qualified products, and keep your purchases in groups of 10, but today–I rocked. I ended up with 100 of the qualified products (even Trix yogurt–I bought 4 of those) so I got $50 off. Plus I had a coupon for $12 off my purchase of $120 or more, so I did have to throw 10 extra brownie mixes on at the end to bump up my total, but it was worth it to use the coupon. On my receipt, it lists my total paid (with tax) as $117.98. Then it lists my savings as $223.24! WHOO-HOO!

Plus, they gave me 9 coupons good for 20 bonus box tops each. So, those coupons alone are worth $18 for my school. And if you consider that each of those products has a boxtop worth 10 cents each (and some products have the bonus boxtops if you look carefully), that’s at least 100 box tops, so another $10 for my school. (So, if you wanted to get really technical about it, you could subtract that $28 that will be donated to my school off my total, bringing me in around $90, but I won’t push it.)

Yes, I rock. And I’m passing my knowledge along to you, gentle reader. So you, too, can be a Grocery Store Treasure Hunter, too.

(You can thank me later)

I was just clipping my coupons to go to Albertson’s tonight! I printed out a list and linked to a bunch of on-line coupons at pinchingyourpennies.com. You can try it out if you’re feeling like a hard-core coupon clipper.

I’m due to go grocery shopping so I’ll just have to mozy on down to Albertson’s. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the heads up. I’m headed over there tonight.

You exhaust me. I was at Albertson’s yesterday and didn’t notice anything. Maybe the stores in the South do things on a different schedule….at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Coming back to report: total was $185, then had the markdowns from in the store and it came to $95 and then I had $20 in coupons for a total of $75!!! Plus I had 60 extra “box tops” to turn in to the PTA ladies on the sidewalk.

Ok, mine wasn’t as awesome as yours or Melindas but I spent $107.16 and saved $128.18. I also had to buy Tylenol for Oscar (who is sick) and Diet Pepsi for Chris who is back on his diet, and some Wachamachalits (that were 3 for 99 cents) for me, so some of the $107 was spent on that. I got an extra 120 box tops to turn into the PTA. So, all in all not a bad day! Thanks for the heads up!

Awesome! I may even find all those coupons and go back!

If you go back, take me with you! I went back when all the cereal was gone, but they re-stock almost every day, and I have coupons that’ll make 10 boxes of cereal cost $6. I’m trying to get my cereal food storage up to that two-year mark.

I showed my receipt off to Mom. I went with a bunch of coupons from Betty Crocker.com and Pillsbury.com, and I spent $17 with tax, but my savings was over $45. It was great! Plus, on Thursday I spent $37 with tax, but my savings was about $50. That was the day I got OTHER STUFF in addition to the boxtops promotion. I know, shame on me.
