The Trials of a Busy Mom

I’m on the wagon. Or off the wagon. Something to do with a wagon.

Please excuse me if I’m a bit grumpy right now.  I’m going through detox here and the side effects are terrible.  No, it’s not the shakes or vomiting, it’s severe grouchiness and the ability to snap at people for no reason.  Yes, friends, I’ve given up sugar.    Or should I say, “Hi, My name is Paige, and I’m a sugarholic”?  (and then you all say back to me in bored voices, Hi, Paige.)  My friend, Robin, and I have been doing this “give up sugar for Lent” thing for a few years now.  Some years I participate, and some years I don’t.  Well, since I’ve realized that I really do have an addiction to sugar, this is the year to do it.  It wasn’t a good thing that my first day of no sugar happened to coincide with my turn at playgroup (6 little hyper 3 year olds at my house) and PMS.  Not good at all.  So, send your condolences to my husband, and wish me luck.  Hopefully I’ll come out of this with all of my family members intact.

Hey- over here from Amazing Shrinking Woman’s Blog.
I recently gave up refined sugar and the first 3 weeks were awful. Simply awful. And I was REALLY addicted. But now I hardly miss it. I wouldn’t suggest Splenda! I’ve heard it can do yucky things to you. After you detox though maybe you could visit the health/yuppy food aisle. There are lots of things over there that have alternatives to refined sugars that taste really good. And I’ve got some marvelous recipes that taste just as good but aren’t nearly as harmful as refined sugar.

Let me know and hopefully it will be a permanent thing for you!

I really attribute my 35 pounds lost to the sugar mostly. I was so addicted it wasn’t even funny.

Now I can occasionally have something with refined sugar but I have to be careful because I will start wanting all of it…

One advantage to being LDS is we don’t have to “do” Lent. We have enough restrictions on us (check out the Word of Wisdom) and one of my hardest, not shopping on Sunday. Good for you, but why put yourself through the misery. I’m now going to go eat something full of sugar to make up for your unwillingness to partake–maybe two things.

Good for you, Paige! I think my inablility to resist sugary snacks is the reason I’m not losing any weight or inches, despite doing aerobics, yoga, weight training, body sculpting, etc. every morning for an hour for the past year! Just remember when you have a craving, instead of eating something sweet, drink some water. That’ll keep you more full, and you’ll have the extra benefits the water gives you. Water’s the best diet! Water, water, water! Now excuse my while I run and take a potty break.

Oh, and are you still exercising 10 minutes for every comment? That’ll make it DOUBLY fun to be on a diet during lent–all the exercise! Aren’t you excited!

(Please excuse my good mood. Today’s my first day in MONTHS that I haven’t had a freelance job!)

Day one…grumpy, but making it. How is it that we have sync-ed up on that PMS thing? The first two weeks are the hardest. Go Paige!

Oh it is so hard but it does get easier! You can tell how easy it is from my post today! I would give it up for Lent too if I even knew what Lent was! Well, I know what it is but not really.

We’re so happy to have you at Smart Habit Saturday! I can’t wait to find out how your week went!
