I’m writing to you from Rehab, where I’m going through sugar detox. They let me out once a day to use the computer.
Although I’ve been sugar free for 5 days now, I’m going through a rough patch right now. I should remind myself that I successfully avoided all the treats at our ward book club on Thursday night. That I watched a movie at the theater with no Jr. Mints, and that I didn’t even taste the cookies the kids were making last night, rather I made myself some sugar free pudding. But I was hit with a sneezing attack while at Jenna’s school this morning (maybe the dust from taking down the bulletin boards, who knows?) and I’m still suffering. I went to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials, and I was bombarded with sugar at every turn–treats from the bakery, easter M&M’s, marshmallow peeps! The list goes on and on–you all know how the grocery store is. And I was hungry and sneezy and generally not feeling up to the challenge. I had to stuff a bagel into my mouth in order to make it out of there without caving. And I’m not supposed to eat bagels, remember? Something to do with a wheat allergy, but I couldn’t rip open the plain rice cake package fast enough and the bagels were on the top of the cart, so it had to be eaten.
ARRRGGG! I have no willpower! I’m weak! I’m not up to the challenge! I don’t know if I can make it! HELP!
(and on a totally unrelated subject, if you or someone you know would like to go see “Seraphim Falls” starring Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson on Thursday, let me know. I have a bunch of passes I picked up while shopping on Saturday)
You do have willpower! Five days is nothing to sniff at – and I know you will make it! You are an inspiration to me and just think how yummy those marshmallow peeps will taste after April 7th. Maybe, by then, you won’t even want them anymore. Hey, if that’s the case, can I have yours?????
You can do it Paige…think of it those first 5 days were the toughest…and while PMS-ing I might add…good for you. What’s a little sneezing compared to PMS‽‽ And if that’s not enough encouragement…I NEED YOU TO STICK THIS OUT! If I don’t have anyone to check in on and encourage, I won’t make it. You don’t want my failure on your head do you‽‽‽‽ You have only 9 more days and the major cravings will be gone. I am just starting today and have 14 days to go…because of all the sugar I ate for my birthday. You can do it…and you will feel much better when you have succeeded…!!
Ok, let me be the voice of reason (or maybe temptation) and remind you that you are Mormon, not Catholic and you DO NOT have to do Lent. You do not have to do the whole cut sugar from your diet thing, maybe cut back, but not abandon! I agree with Tess, five days is nothing to sniff at. Now, go and enjoy some pre-Easter candy.
Just think about it – each day without sugar, you’ve probably saved yourself A LOT of calories. Empty calories. Calories you’d just have to burn off, and isn’t it easier just not to eat them in the first place?
You can do it!
PAIGE!!!! THIS IS THE ANGEL ON YOUR SHOULDER…..DON’T LISTEN TO THEM!!! THIS ISN’T ABOUT CATHOLIC…IT IS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH, IT IS ABOUT GOALS, IT IS ABOUT TRADITION….!!!! And if that pleading is not enough, I must inform you this is about the Word of Wisdom. We should be taking care of our bodies and the sugar addiction is not much better than any other potential addiction mentioned in the Word of Wisdom. it doesn’t specify Cocaine either, but we all realize that partaking of such a substance might be contrary to the Word of Wisdom, right? Any addiction is bad, and if it is giving you a headache to not partake, then it is an addiction. My brother gets headaches when he doesn’t drink coffee…what’s the difference? DO YOU WANT TO BE A SUGAR JUNKIE ALL YOUR LIFE‽‽‽‽‽‽‽ (I love interrobangs) JUST SAY NO!!!
Yea Melissa!!!
Well, since it doesn’t specifically say “Cocaine”, I’m going to . . . Ok, not to start an internet fight, I am really just having some fun. Good for you. Just glad I am not doing it. Again, good for you. And you too Robin.
